The 40th Junior peace Race begins with 19 nations taking part

Černý, Turek, Zechmeister, Nipl, Valeš a Zahálka. These are the names of the six riders wearing the Czech tricolour. No one else will help them to reach the races "daphne" since this year each nation is allowed only one team. The fact that the 40th anniversary edition of the race is not going to be a peace of cake in obvious to everyone. The drama of the May stages will start at the Litomerices main square today.

Už tuto středu odstartuje cyklistický Závodu míru juniorů (4. – 8. 5). Tentokrát ale prestižní akce oslaví jubileum, když cyklisté do májových etap šlápnou počtyřicáté. Také v letošním roce čeká na juniorské cyklisty náročných pět dní v sedle, během nichž musí zvládnout přes pět set kilometrů a i tentokrát přejedou přes hranice do Německa.

„Ani letos jsme se nevyhnuli změnám. Nejen, že cyklisté detailně poznají kopce v Ústeckém kraji, když budou křižovat Krušné hory a České středohoří, ale dostanou se opět přes české hranice. Oproti loňsku se trochu změnila sobotní etapa do Altenbergu, kdy cyklisté více času stráví na německém území. Nová je druhá etapa z Lomu do Litvínova a kvůli stavebním úpravám v Sebuzíně jsme museli přepracovat tradiční nedělní díl se startem i cílem v Terezíně,“ sdělil ředitel Závodu míru juniorů Svatopluk Henke.

The routes for the stages of the 40th Junior Peace Race were declared

Half of stages for this years anniversary edition of the race were slightly modified. The juniors peloton will commence with the stages, traditionally, at the Litomerices Peace square (Mírové náměstí) on Wednesday the 4th of May at 2:30 pm. A new stage awaits the competitors already on Thursday. For the first time the bunch will start from Lom and they will battle for the stage win in the streets of Litvinov. On Friday the contenders will have to face two challenges. The time trial is scheduled in Trebenice for the morning, while in the afternoon another stage will take place in Roudnice nad Labem. The weekend program will start with another modified stage which will take the riders from Teplice over the border to the German town of Altenberg. Almost exactly a half of this stage will be on the German roads. This year, due to construction works in Sebuzin, the feared climbs to Kamyk and Sebuzin will not be part of the final stage. Nevertheless, this years closing stage will be a equally demanding, taking the peloton from Terezin for four rounds in the area of Ploskovice and Trebusin. Despite the modification of the stages the race finish will be in Terezin again.
